Abstract
The results of experimental research on selected stainless steel grades applied in construction are presented and widely discussed. They relate to the X6CrNiTi18-10 steel exhibiting austenitic structure and also to two other steel grades exhibiting two-phase austenitic–ferritic structure, such as X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 steel of the standard duplex type (SDSS) and X2CrMnNiN21-5-1 steel of the lean duplex type (LDSS). Analysed samples have been effectively cooled after heating in a muffle furnace following the steady-state heating regime. For comparative purposes several fire exposure scenarios have been considered, including “short” fires – with one hour long and “long” fires – with 10 hours long simulated fire exposure. The heating temperature has been differentiated as well. It was set at the level of 600 ℃ - for the first group, and at the level of 800 ℃ - for the second group. The parameters obtained after slow cooling of the samples in the furnace have been juxtaposed with those obtained after their rapid cooling in water mist.
