Abstract
During the period of modernism, many works of architecture were created in Krakow, whose articulation of the rhythms of windows, pillars and planes in the façade created wonderful musical records, determining their aesthetic expression. The considerations focus on the development of modernism, showing the city of Krakow architecturally diverse. It is during this period that the pioneering power of influencing today’s concrete aesthetics can be found. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the important role played by Krakow’s modernist architecture in the development of concrete architecture in the contemporary context. The introduction of concrete as the main construction material in architecture was a key element of modernism. Krakow’s modernism experimented with concrete as both a structural, constructive and visual material, which was revolutionary at the time. In his reflections on concrete as an element shaping architecture, Dariusz Kozłowski emphasized its duality. Concrete was often hidden under layers of other materials that represented a hidden structure or had their own aesthetic qualities. However, sometimes it was concrete, illuminated by the full sun, that independently conveyed the shapes and meanings of architecture, creating a unity of structures, symbols and aesthetics. The cited examples of architecture that evoke strong emotions in the author of the text are intended to show a certain building tradition that has established unattainable ideals for new generations. The author is convinced that in order to understand the world of architecture, one should explore the knowledge of these indisputable patterns. Everyone is bound by tradition. Regardless of whether he thinks that he can throw everything into the trash and start over, it does not change the fact that tradition is associated with him and he will always, consciously or less consciously, refer to it and return to it. What changes is our understanding of tradition and a bold look at it and the opportunities it gives us. Thanks to the heritage of architecture, young architects have the opportunity to continue and develop these values, drawing on tradition, positively influencing the quality of people’s lives, creating aesthetically attractive architecture that provides comfortable and dignified living conditions.

Jednakże czasami to właśnie beton, oświetlony pełnym słońcem, samodzielnie przekazywał kształty i znaczenia architektury, tworząc jedność struktur, symboli i estetyki.
