Dynamic characteristics of multicomponent diffusion of hydrogen mixtures through cylindrical and flat mesoporous membranes

Abstract
The impact of mesoporous membranes curvature with hollow-cylinder geometry on the diffusion dynamics of gaseous hydrogen mixtures was evaluated. It was assumed that components are not adsorbed. The mass transport involves molecular and Knudsen diffusion, and viscous flow. A dusty gas model was used to simulate diffusion. The definition of geometric equivalence between cylindrical and flat membranes was implemented, giving the possibility of transferring results between the two. Criteria for thin-walled cylindrical membranes were formulated to simplify models of diffusion dynamics. They were derived from the comparison of pressure extremes on time trajectories. A global curvature of the membrane depending on its dimensions and the components molar mass ratio of was introduced. It was shown that the membrane thickness affects the equilibrium gas composition, and that the diffusion of ternary mixtures is accompanied by the existence of peculiar phenomena – reverse diffusion and multiple total pressure extremes on both membrane sides.
