Abstract
The application of poly(Ionic Liquids) (poly(ILs)) in specialized fields, such as energy storage, drug delivery systems or nanostructured membranes is the subject of current research. The most promising strategy for producing poly(ILs) is the process of the Radical Polymerization (RP) of the unsaturated Ionic Liquids (Polymerizable Ionic Liquids/Ionic Liquids Monomers). It seems obvious that getting knowledge on the molecular organization of the monomer is crucial to understand mechanism of the radical polymerization. However, due to the complex nature of molecular interactions (e.g. electrostatic repulsion, agglomeration) in Polymerizing Protic Ionic Liquids the molecular characterization of monomers is not yet fully understood and described. In this work, we have performed a broad physicochemical characterization of n-butylammonium methacrylate, which is a model example of a Protic Ionic Liquid Monomer.
