Abstract
The research presented dealt with the relevance of the issue of activating older and disabled people in the teaching of architectural and urban design. Based on practical experience, potential methods of introducing this issue into the curriculum and additional student activities were identified. Statistics show that demographic changes regarding the ageing of the population in the EU are undeniable. A quantitative analysis of available data indicates that Poland will become one of the oldest countries in Europe. Future architects and urban planners must be prepared for these changes. Research shows that keeping older people permanently active can delay the process of becoming dependent due to the decline in capacity associated with ageing. It is very important to adapt the urban-architectural space to the needs of people with deficits and to create an environment that allows continuous activity for preventive measures. The chapter presents the behavioural and physical effects of ageing and their impact on fitness, methods of preventive training, methods of creating a safe and active environment for older people and people with disabilities, and proposed approaches to integrate these issues into the curriculum. According to the research, the most effective method of teaching design for active ageing and disability is an interdisciplinary approach through seminars and individual project revisions. The most beneficial impact on the students' approach to the topic of design was meeting special educators, experiencing disability themselves using special equipment and observing seniors and children with disabilities, which not only broke down the barrier of communication with people with dysfunctions, but created a sense of the need to adapt the design of public spaces to the needs of different users.

- Abstract in Polish
- Przedstawione badania dotyczyły znaczenia problematyki aktywizacji osób starszych i niepełnosprawnych w nauczaniu projektowania architektonicznego i urbanistycznego. Według badań najskuteczniejszą metodą nauczania projektowania służącego aktywizacji osób starszych i niepełnosprawnych jest podejście interdyscyplinarne poprzez seminaria i indywidualne korekty projektów.
