The overhead transmission line temperature impact on the phase-shifting transformer settings

Abstract
The development of measurement and monitoring systems enable better use of materials and devices. Therefore, temperature sensors are installed in transmission lines to control their temperature. According to the wire’s temperature variations, its resistance changes as well. This results in different conditions of power transmission in lines with installed phase-shifting transformers. The article presents resistance changes as a temperature function, then resistance impact on the power flow and a need of the phase-shifter settings recalculation. The complexity of the power flows requires consideration of many factors, therefore presented analysis is conducted also for different and typical phase-angles. Obtained results show the maintaining constant power transfer requires relative changes of injected additional voltage in a range from 1 to 81 %. Based on the calculated data, it is possible to optimize power flows using dependency, which is often skipped in research. The importance of the measurement sensors is highlighted.
