Abstract
The demolition of old concrete structures is an increasing trend, mainly due to their technical state, end of service-life and plans of modernization. The disadvantage of the process is resultant Concrete Construction and Demolition Waste (CC&DW) that needs to be transported, and if not recycled, deposited in landfills. Increased awareness of human impact on the environment have contributed to researches on the use of recycled materials from CC&DW in new cementitious mixes. Interesting type of concrete is Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC), able to be durable regardless of quality of construction works. Because coarse aggregate accounts even for up to 60% of the volume of concrete, recycling CC&DW into coarse aggregate would contribute significantly to reduction of the waste. This resulted in studies on SCC with Recycled Coarse Aggregate (RCA). Many research and studies have already appeared to prove its usefulness in academic community and industry applications. However, current state of knowledge does not provide full understanding of processes in SCC with RCA. Thus, authors provided bibliometric analysis to cover trends of SCC with RCA and literature review on RCA in SCC acquired from CC&DW. Research gaps of current state of knowledge regarding RCA in SCC were highlighted. Authors proposed innovative and promising source of CC&DW to be used as RCA and suggest that this case requires further and detailed research.
