Characterization of mine tailings as raw materials for geopolymer synthesis – mineralogical composition

Abstract
Since aluminosilicate minerals are most common in the earth's crust, there are also the most common mine tailings type. Therefore, aluminosilicate waste can become a source that can be used in the geopolymerization process. In this study, efforts were made to use mining waste for the production of geopolymer binders. The main aim of the presented research includes synthesis of geopolymers based on mining waste (coal gauge) and next analyses mineralogical composition and mechanical properties of obtained materials. The results show a high potential for mining waste for the geopolymerization process. Based on this process is it possible to get the materials for advanced applications based on mining waste.
