On contemporary myths of functionalism
Authors:
- Marek Początko
Abstract
Following the example of the past, contemporary architecture seeks its language of form, theory and principles. This applies to the rules of beauty and proportions, but also the myths present in architectural practice that are often hidden in habits, established patterns and traditions. It also relates to functionalism which, while partially liberating artists from the responsibility for form, has not, with a few exceptions, brought the expected spectacular results. It did not avoid many utopias and myths, which in retrospect are easier to name and relate to contemporariness. The paper attempts to describe selected ideas of functionalism in contemporary terms through the prism of architectural doctrines and projects.
