Abstract
The outflow of water in the river bed is the result of many hydrometeorological, geomorphological and biological processes taking place in the river catchment. The flow dynamics, non-linear and complex, reflect the direct and indirect interactions between rainfall, evapotranspiration, infiltration, underground runoff, surface runoff and other processes and conditions in the catchment: its topography, soil type and cover, soil saturation, air humidity, etc. The river catchment is therefore a natural non-linear dynamic system in which one of the most important variables of this system is the river flow. The main purpose of the analysis was to determine the role of reservoirs operating in the course of mountain rivers in changing the dynamics of river flow. The daily river flow measured for a mountain river with a dam reservoir was studied by means of the recurrence quantification analysis (RQA). The conducted analysis showed that the dam reservoirs significantly changed the dynamics of water flowing out of them in terms of RQA measures.
