Abstract
Nowadays, a rail vehicles are produced to achieve high speed in long length of a railway lane operated. In near future, the manufacturing technologies used in aviation industry to produce components, can be applied in the high speed rail vehicles industry. This article presents possibilities of the electrical discharge drilling process (EDD) which is used to produce high aspect ratio holes (depth-to-diameter ratio) in difficult-to-cut materials. These holes are performed in the components structure and enable to extend their operation. During the EDD process, a crucial issue is removing eroded particles from the area of hole bottom. Due to a sufficient flushing the gap area between tool electrode and workpiece constitutes important factor providing the process stability. In this work, the influence of the initial-temperature and the initial-pressure deionized water on the flow conditions via single–channel electrode, is investigated. The volumetric flow rate and the Reynolds number are analysis to estimate the flushing conditions for the tool electrode with outer diameter such as 1.00 mm and 0.4 mm. The results analysis shows that the flow conditions through the electrode channel can also be considered as a turbulent flow for the tool electrode outer diameter 0.4 mm while applying the initial-temperature about 313.15 °K and the initial-pressure 8 MPa.
