Abstract
In Poland, there is a dynamic development of renewable energy, the main directions of which are solar energy and wind, less often geothermal. The study analyzes the effectiveness of cooperation of solar thermal and geothermal sources on the example of hospital building with swimming pool in Zakopane (southern part of Poland). In 2015, the solar thermal installation was built in the building with 75 collectors facing south (tilt angle 30 °) and 40 collectors facing west (tilt angle 30 °). Solar collector installation was built as support for the preparation of domestic hot water in the building (sanitary purposes). The rest of the energy is supplied as geothermal energy from the company "Geotermia Podhalańska". Gas boilers are a conventional installation supporting the heating system in "Geotermia Podhalańska". In the solar installation equipped with a heat meter, heat gains were monitored, separately for the south side and separately for the west side. The measured results were compared with the insolation data for Zakopane and the angle and directions of the collectors' surface. The data was obtained from the PVGIS-SARAH website and the government website (Typical Reference Year). The efficiency analysis of the process of obtaining energy was carried out for the period 1 July 2015 - 31 December 2016 and it amounted to 19% and 11.3% for the south and west sides, respectively. These are very low values for Polish solar thermal installations. Achieving the optimal ecological effect, expressed in the annual reduction of CO2 emissions, depends on the type of the replaced source. For the geothermal Energy with 20% gas boiler option, the CO2 emission reduction value was 1,890 kg.
