Abstract
The progress of science and technology leads to the emergence of newer and more technologically advanced materials. In the case of railways, this progress is particularly evident in the increasingly new types of track surfaces. One such element is Y-shape steel sleeper. Y-shape steel sleepers are a structural component of the track surface. It is dated back to the mid-eighties. Initially, they were mainly used on the German railway network. However, they gained their popularity in other European countries a little later. Thanks to many advantages, in particular related to the increase of longitudinal and lateral resistance of the track, the solution is currently used all over the world. This article discusses the construction of this track element. The fasteners that are used for steel Y sleepers are presented. Examples of usage in Europe and Poland are shown. The advantages and disadvantages of such a solution were also discussed.

- Abstract in Polish
- Postęp nauki i techniki prowadzi do powstawania coraz nowszych i bardziej zaawansowanych technologicznie materiałów. W przypadku torów kolejowych postęp ten jest szczególnie widoczny w coraz nowszych rodzajach elementów nawierzchni szynowych. Jednym z takich elementów są podkłady stalowe typu Y. Jest to element konstrukcyjny nawierzchni torowej, którego początki sięgają połowy lat osiemdziesiątych.
