Abstract
Among many compounds that due to their properties are widely used for preparation of ceramic composites applicable in medicine is hydroxyapatite (HAp) characterized by good osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity. Additionally, it enables the adhesion and proliferation of cells and contributes to the fixation of the interaction between the implant and the bone tissue. In presented research, a series of composites with HAp has been obtained. Firstly, HAp has been synthesized by two different methodologies. The methodology of the synthesis of HAp affected its microstructure and the surface morphology that was caused by the different temperature conditions. Both obtained HAp powders met the ISO requirements, that assume that the Ca/P ratio should be within the range 1.5 − 2.0, which qualifies the biomaterial for further investigations. Next, HAp powders were introduced into the polymer matrices based on collagen, gelatin and polyvinylpyrrolidone. The additives were uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix that was proved by SEM analysis. Composites exhibited low swelling ability and stability in simulated physiological liquids. It can be concluded that the developed composites due to their components and properties constitute interesting materials that can be considered for the use in such areas as tissue engineering or implantology.
