Basic features of MR clutches – resulting from different number of discs

Abstract
The main purpose of the paper is to determine basic features of MR clutches resulting from different number of discs N. At the beginning the authors considered the assumptions that must be fulfilled by the clutches (with different number of discs) which will be compared. Then 4 clutches (N=1, 2, 3 and 4) were designed with the use of computer program Agros2D. The 4 designed clutches having different number of discs were compared from viewpoint of the developed clutching torque T, the outer diameter, the external length, and ratio: clutching torque per total volume.
