Abstract
Material, geometrical or thermal softening can trigger the occurrence of localized deformations which can be stationary, e.g. a neck or shear band, or propagative [1,6], and can lead to failure. When the classical continuum description is used, mesh sensitivity can be observed on account of deformation confined in the smallest possible volume, e.g. one row of elements. To avoid this effect regularization is needed, and can be provided for example by time rate sensitivity. This work is focused on the numerical analysis of a propagative instability called Lueders bands in a bone-shape sample under tension at different temperatures. The simulations of Lueders bands are described for instance in [2]. Studies involving temperature are presented for example in [4]. The analysis is performed using a large strain viscoplastic model with Huber-Mises yield function. The viscoplastic model is an extension of the model described in [5]. All computations are performed using AceGen and AceFEM packages for Wolfram Mathematica [3]. A parametric study for different values of viscosity and conductivity are presented. To replicate the Lueders bands phenomenon multilinear hardening is applied. When the plastic process starts the hardening modulus is negative to the first threshold. At the beginning of that stage a stationary band forms. From the first to the second threshold the hardening modulus equals to zero. At the beginning of second stage the band is fully developed, a plastic front forms and the band starts to move. From the second threshold the hardening modulus is positive and after exceeding this point the deformation gradually becomes uniform. A final softening branch induces necking and failure. The study shows the influence of temperature on the phenomenon.
