Abstract
In this paper, we briefly present the heat/momentum transfer anal-ogies of Reynolds and the followers for turbulent flow. Next, wediscuss differences between turbulent and laminar flow and turnto the Leveque analogy for laminar flow. This enables heat trans-fer coefficients (Nusselt numbers) to be derived, based on the flowfriction results that include only viscous friction. Some examplesof Leveque analogy applications, such as flow through packedbeds, wire gauzes, short-channel structures (short monoliths), andstructured catalyst carriers (tube inserts), are given. The Levequeanalogy gave satisfactory accuracy when compared to experi-ments with flow friction derived on the theoretical basis.
