Abstract
The geophysical method – electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is more often and more widely used in subsoil studies, but rarely taking into account its limitations. Usually, measurements are made, followed by a standard quantitative interpretation based on the inversion process (optimization of processing parameters to minimize the error). There is no analysis of the ambiguity of solutions supported by modeling, which over-interprets the results. Numerical modeling allows to simulate field measurements for the assumed parameters, check whether the problem can be solved by the applied method and select the optimal measurement and acquisitions parameters. The examples presented of numerical modeling for the electrical resistivity method (ERT) show that the distribution of the interpreted resistivity not always reproduce the distribution of the assumed model, and thus does not have to correspond to the actual distribution of resistivity.
