Abstract
A new method for thermal calculations of cross-flow tube heat exchangers was proposed. The method may be used to determine the temperature of hot and cool fluid along their flow path and the wall temperature. The heat exchanger is divided into sections, inside which the fluid temperatures are given by analytical formulas. Examples of application of the method for calculation of heat exchangers such as one-pass one-row plate-fin and tube heat exchanger (PFTHE) and single-pass double-row PFTHE were presented. Analytical models were also developed for both heat exchangers to assess the accuracy of the proposed method. A mathematical model of a two-pass car radiator with two rows of tubes using the proposed method was also developed. The results of radiator calculations are in good agreement with the results of experimental tests. The proposed method can be used to calculate heat exchangers with a complex flow system in which the physical properties of fluids depend on temperature. The computation time of heat exchangers using the developed method is very short.
