Abstract
The high demands made on power supply systems, and consequently on electric devices used in industrial processes, cause the need to ensure the appropriate quality of power supply. The basic parameters of the power systems are: the rms-values of the current, voltage and active and reactive power consumed by the electric loads. In previous papers the authors have studied the use of a low-frequency sampling method for measuring these basic power system parameters showing that this method can be easily applied in simple microcontrollers and PLC controllers. This article discusses the influence of the technical limitations of measurement devices on the measured rms-values of the current and voltage as well as on reactive and active power values. The result of this study is the proposal of error reduction of the low-frequency measurement method while using it on simple microcontrollers and compact PLC controllers. Laboratory tests carried out using an Mitsubishi FX5 compact PLC controller confirmed the correctness of the proposed method of reducing the measurement error.
