Design and modeling of switched reluctance motor for scooter application

Abstract
The paper presents a modeling process applied for the design of a complete electric drive with a switched reluctance motor (SRM) for electric scooters. A finite-element model (FEM) of the magnetic motor core was built in ANSYS Maxwell. The model was used for sizing the geometry of the core and then for calculations of steady state characteristics of the motor. Circuital models of power converter module were developed in ANSYS Simplorer and a structure of the control system was formulated in MATLAB/Simulink. The combination of these environments enabled the inclusion of the FEM model to the complete numerical model of drive. The results of the co-simulations carried out at constant motor speed present the features and the performance of the drive system under consideration. They fulfill the assumed properties of the drive for scooter application.
