Abstract
Hypocaust furnaces as elements of old heating systems that used hot air to war rooms were discov-ered in the course of architectonic research in many objects, including monasteries of various orders. The technological concept of such heating systems has its roots in the antiquity, though it underwent numerous technological transformations since then, before it evolved into an independent and autonomous element of the system in the form of the heat storage furnace. Old furnaces used to be integral elements of abuild-ing’s structure, remodelled and adapted to suit current requirements. As historic equipment in monasteries – even if outdated and unnecessary – they are under conservation protection on apar with architecture and artistic decor, bearing testimony to the level of civilisa-tion development and material culture.

Dawne piece były integralnymi elementami struktury budynków, przebu-dowywanymi idostosowywanymi do bieżących potrzeb. Jako historyczne wyposażenie klasztorów – choć prze-starzałe izbędne – podlegają ochronie konserwatorskiej na równi zich architekturą iwystrojem artystycznym, dając świadectwo poziomu rozwoju cywilizacyjnego ikultury materialnej.
