Abstract
Torsional and bending stiffness and their ratio influence significantly on the strain redistribution in the statically indeterminate ribbed systems. Bending stiffness of the cracked elements has been investigated quite fully. And their torsional stiffness has not been sufficiently researched. This is especially true for reinforced concrete beam elements with normal cracks. This paper demonstrates that the solution of this problem consists of three parts. The first task is to determine the mutual displacement of the sides of a normal crack. This problem is proposed to be solved by approximating the function of mutual displacement of those sides depending on the crack depth and cross-section dimensions. The second problem is determining the stiffness of the element in the place where the normal crack is located. This problem is solved from the condition of compatibility of deformations in the place of the mental cut of longitudinal reinforcement. The technique for determining torsional stiffness with two or more longitudinal reinforcement bars is presented. The third and the last task before the final calculation of the ribbed system is to determine the total stiffness of the bar in order to set the stiffness parameters of each element in the system for the iterative calculation of strains in it.
