Miejsce teatralne dla otwartej wspólnoty

Abstract
In the second decade of the 21st century, the issue of exclusion seems to be still valid. In particular, it refers to the ongoing migration crisis in Europe and also concerns the ongoing discrimination of sex, race and religion. Taking up the challenge of building an open community is not about overcoming differences but about trying to understand them. How can theater venues become a variable and open field of discussion and participation, joint search, value creation? Examples include the Teatro Oficina in São Paulo built in 1982, designed by Lina Bardi, Marcelo Suzuki and Edson Elito. The whole street takes part in the performance, everything and everyone are both elements and figures of art that happens there. The project of Nowy Teatr in Warsaw (2009) by Kozień Architekci is an attempt to combine theater space with cultural space. Here, the spectacle area may extend from the industrial interior of a nineteenth-century hall, through the area under the suspended beam-bridge to the undulating surface of the park. At the same time, all these spaces can be given to everyday life, accessible even to passers-by. These two architectural interventions are a step towards building places for an open community.
