Abstract
The aim of the article is to attempt to investigate the existence of a correlation between the morphology of urban tissue with smog levels using the example of Krakow. Poland’s cities have had to deal with the phenomenon of smog for many years and there are no signs that the situation is going to improve anytime soon despite the fact that certain efforts have been made by local authorities to address it. In the article, the authors perform a comparison between three of Krakow’s districts in terms of their urban morphology, terrain characteristics, and location within the city itself and relative to the most significant air pollution emission sites, and contrast it with their respective smog levels during a predetermined set of weather conditions. The observations could serve as the basis for the formulation of a set of guidelines for area development plans that could help lessen the problem of smog.
