Abstract
Krakow (Europe, Poland)-a metropolis whose historical centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List-placed 10th in the "High Sufficiency" category of the GaWC ranking (for comparison, Toronto placed 12th in the Alpha category), is one of the many dynamically transforming cities of the world. Not all of them, however, have such a rich history, further marked by the influence of totalitarian ideologies, whose result is a preserved, composed urban layout created during the period of socialist realism. The problem of the construction of a new part of the city- Nowa Huta-without any sort of temple, of the contestation of this fact and the later necessity of introducing temples into a set urban tissue, the lack of cultural diversity, a specific urban and architectural form, as well as of the current reception of the space composed in the socialist realist style is the subject of this article.
