Abstract
A safety was the primeval human need. Since the Neolithic Era it was completed with a special organization of human settlements as a big scenery for a forthcoming battle. A long-range artillery, stopped a development of a bastion-, tenaille- and polygonal fortifications and launched the era of forts, circular fortresses and, finally, dispersed fortifications, defending countries aline these borders. Giant structures consisted of a concrete forts, equipped with armoured gun emplacements, connected together with batteries and infantry earthworks by a net of the fortress’ roads, well camouflaged by a special strips of trees and bushes there were a new shape of a strategic landscape. Landscape prepared as a future battlefield looked as a most peaceful, romantic landscape of a type of parks in the “beautifull style”. Landcsape well known, blooded during the Great War today are still at service. Now performing function as the great memorial complexes, open-air museum, green complexes, noted in the cities’ plans of development. These are creating a historical, ecological, townscape and touristic. The fortresses of the non-existing Austro-Hungarian Empire is the best example of values of the common, technical and historical heritage of all the nations of the Central-Europe. Designed according to individual directions developed by Austro-Hungarian military engineering, under extremely difficult tactical and economic conditions, were implemented under the specific conditions of the federal state - a kind of “European community”. Their unique and universal values are the basis for their efforts to cross-border their entry into the UNESCO World Heritage List.

- Bezpieczeństwo to jedna z podstawowych potrzeb człowieka. Od czasów neolitu potrzebę tę spełniano poprzez specjalną organizację przestrzeni ludzkich siedzib – jako scenografii spodziewanych walk. Artyleria dalekosiężna zatrzymała rozwój fortyfikacji bastionowej, kleszczowej i poligonalnej, otwierając erę fortów, twierdz pierścieniowych, a w końcu fortyfikacji rozproszonej, broniącej granic krajów jako fronty ufortyfikowane. Paradoksalnie krajobraz, przygotowany jako przyszłe pole walk fortecznych – wyglądał jako pokojowy, parkowy, romantyczny krajobraz w typie angielskich ogrodów w stylu “beautifull”. Krajobraz znany z krwawych walk z okresu I Wojny Światowej obecnie nadal pozostają w służbie. Pełniąc funkcje wielkich kompleksów memorialnych, muzeów otwartych i wielkich kompleksów zieleni, zauważanych w planach rozwojów miast. Projektowane według indywidualnych kierunków opracowanych przez austro-węgierską inżynierię wojskową, w skrajnie trudnych warunkach taktycznych i ekonomicznych, realizowane były w specyficznych warunkach federacyjnego państwa – swoistej „wspólnoty europejskiej”. Ich wyjątkowe i uniwersalne wartości stanowią podstawę do starań o ich transgraniczny wpis na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO.
