Abstract
Not without a reason we speak today of the existence of the information society. The information shapes our reality, including the space, sometimes in a very direct way. At the same time we are witnessing a dramatic ageing of the societies. Together with the development of the medicine, we are facing new challenges. Our attitude towards the rehabilitation is changing – the restoration of a maximum activity and independence becomes the aim. In such context it seems important to consider the potential of the contemporary digital technologies (which are giving wonderful opportunities in terms of collecting and disseminating information), in relation to the needs of people with disabilities. Recording data digitally makes it possible to present it in almost any way. Systems providing access to the information regarding the space (from the location of a building in a town to the amount of stairs in front of that building), seem to be the easiest, yet quite important way of compensating for the special needs of people with disabilities. Obviously such solutions can only serve as a transitional mean, not as a real alternative for the measures to create a city that is accessible for everyone. However, they can pose a valuable extension of the comprehensive strategies aimed at creating space that is comfortable and friendly for all groups of users.

Wraz z rozwojem medycyny stajemy wobec nowych wyzwań.
