Abstract
The paper is devoted to presentation of the fundamental concepts of the newest member of the well known BS 1192 family of the British Standards, namely the lastly published PAS 1192-6:2018. This new standard is focused on providing a life-cycle spanning framework for introduction of the health and safety (HS) layers of information to the information model of a building. Incorporation of the HS information requirements to the relatively well-established and standardised BIM models is a challenge as the HS information is by its nature of complex character, being expressed not only as an internal "in-component parametric" information but also in the fourth dimension of BIM models, i.e., including the time parameter. In case of the HS information layer the time parameter is of critical importance as the conditions affecting the health and safety of human beings depends on the building status and is changeable throughout the building life-cycle, whether it is still in the construction stage, in the operation phase, subject to remodelling or decommission/end-of-life phase. A revolutionary idea of the new standard is to collect, enrich, analyse and propagate the HS information together with other information layers in BIM models in the life-cycle of the building. The paper discusses in detail the assumptions of the standard (Part I) and their practical implementation in the projects, especially taking into consideration achievements of the Polish Agreement for Safety in Construction Industry and their replication in the HS information requirements (Part II).
