Towards greener society – educational aspect of playground areas. Examples from Bundesgartenschau 2015

Abstract
The article presents the didactic values of playground areas. The text is depicted by examples of playground areas that accompanied the horticultural exhibition BUGA 2015 (Bundesgartenschau) in Havel region in Germany. Specific colours, shapes and materials used in these spaces bring adolescent users closer to nature. In urbanised environment it seems to be more and more important to form environmentally friendly attitude since early childhood. Joyful memories of safe, colourful spaces, where children can 'touch' the nature have great impact on future appropriate behaviours. Playground spaces are designed to improve children’s development. They are characterized by introducing many various building and groundcover materials to create different touch sensations. Usually they are also very colourful, so they affect on the sense of sight. The article provides the general description of 6 playground areas opened during BUGA 2015 exhibition. The quantity analysis of building materials and colours of playground elements as well as groundcover was conducted.
