Abstract
Works on the subject were started with the aim to advance knowledge about public art in the urban space; a space highly diversifi ed in terms of urban planning, landscape, cultural and social aspects, but also the attitudes and needs of the authors and the recipients. The research analysis focused on the multisensuality of space, transfi gured through architecture and art. The article discusses the issues of building the time-space continuum and shaping the national and regional identity of places by introducing visual art projects into the factual space, to complement it with the new forms, colours, sounds, fragrances, materials and textures. We use the symbolic layer of art to identify with places. I am particularly interested in the smoothness of boundaries between architecture and installation, not only in formal terms, but also from the ideological perspective. There is a close connection between architecture and installations, clearly refl ected by architectural projects which alone are sculptural works of art. The examples are numerous, and I will mention some of them further in the text, but my primary intention is to place maximum focus on an internationally acclaimed conceptual artist Daniel Buren, who cooperated with architects such as Frank Gehry or Frank Lloyd Wright.
