Abstract
Katyń Museum is a unique realisation, outstanding on the European scale, which were among the fi ve runners-up for the prestigious Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Award 2017. Designed by Polish architects within the historic Warsaw Citadel, strongly symbolic, it combines various forms of artistic expression: architecture, sculpture and landscape architecture. The project, though entirely modern, does not come into confl ict with the existing 19th-century building. Museum creators did not carry out a conversion but, indeed, an adaptation of a fragment of the Citadel, realised with immense respect for its original spatial plan and historic materials. Katyń Museum is a great commemorative work for future generations, historical education and exposing the truth about the Katyń Massacre perpetrated by the Soviets on 22 thousands of Poles who were the national elite.
