Abstract
In Poland, the many surviving architectural and urban forms provide a record of cultural heritage. In many cases, the buildings stand alone and constitute an individual value. Sometimes they are grouped together in an open-air museum, where some buildings are still in their original surroundings, whereas others have been translocated from neighbouring regions. The Museum of Pomeranian Folk Culture in Swołowo is not typical, as it was established in a continuously functioning and inhabited village characterised by a set of unique values. The existing buildings served as a basis for bringing together residential and agricultural functions with the commercial operations of a leading cultural institution in the region. The systemic, novel and creative approach used to present the wide range of cultural and engineering aspects helped generate educational and social capacity to assure sustainability of heritage resources of what today is the Pomeranian Voivodship. The approach applied can serve as a model for contemporary approaches to animating traditions, handicrafts and folklore within the traditional, historic spatial context.

- Na terenie Polski znajduje się wiele zachowanych obiektów architektonicznych i urbanistycznych będących świadectwem dziedzictwa kulturowego. W większości przypadków występuj ą pojedynczo i stanowią indywidualną wartość . Niekiedy są grupowane w skanseny, gdzie część obiektów występuje w otoczeniu pierwotnym, a inne są relokowane na sąsiednie obszary przy pomocy translokacji. Muzeum Kultury Ludowej Pomorza w Swołowie stanowi nietypowy przykład, gdyż powstało w obrębie nieprzerwanie funkcjonującej i zamieszkałej wsi o niepowtarzalnych walorach. Istniejąca substancja posłużyła do zapoczątkowania procesu zespolenia funkcji mieszkalno-rolniczej z komercyjnie działającą placówką kulturową o wiodącej funkcji w regionie. Kompleksowe, nowoczesne i kreatywne podejście do prezentacji szerokiego wachlarza aspektów kulturowych i inżynieryjnych pozwoliło na uzyskanie potencjału edukacyjnego i społecznego wspomagającego przetrwanie dorobku dziedzictwa obecnego województwa pomorskiego. Zastosowane tam mechanizmy mogą posłużyć za wzór współczesnego podejścia do kultywowania zwyczajów, rzemiosła i folkloru w tradycyjnym, historycznym otoczeniu urbanistycznym.
