Abstract
In this paper, the experimental and numerical estimation of the dynamic characteristics of a cable-stayed footbridge is presented. The investigation was performed for an existing pedestrian bridge located in Pcim, Southern Poland. The primary purpose of the structure is to carry pedestrians and cyclists across the Raba river. The aim of the investigation was to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the footbridge, i.e. natural frequencies, modes of vibration and damping ratios. For numerical analysis, a 3D model of the footbridge was prepared. For experimental investigation, a procedure for in situ testing was prepared. Three types of excitation were used during experimental tests – ambient vibration, shock excitation and slow sine sweep testing. In the last stage of the study, the authors validate the obtained results. The modal assurance criterion was used for this purpose. The modal analysis revealed that the first three frequencies of the footbridge coincide with the frequency of pedestrian steps while walking and running.
