Abstract
The article presents the didactic values of garden exhibitions. The text is depicted by examples of theme gardens from Bundesgartenschau 2015, which bring visitors attention towards issues of nature protection. Show gardens are a particular type of gardens designed to amaze visitors with bold solutions, fabulous colours and new plant varieties. One type of show gardens - the theme garden seems to be a great opportunity to communicate with visitors. To observant guest they can unveil a story hidden on symbolic layer of garden composition. Designers frequently use this didactic value of gardens so they become places that explore specific topics. They become a silent spokesman of some idea or major issue. In the last few years themes tend to touch issues related to environmental protection more and more often. The analysis was conducted on a group of 28 theme gardens presented in Brandenburg an der Havel. It enabled to divide these gardens into two groups. First group, around 35% of theme gardens focuses on art and leisure. The second group seems to have high educational values. Almost all of them tends to draw visitors attention towards nature and environment, while 78% of them have also educational values in terms of culture.
