Theoretical and experimental analysis of failure modes for sandwich structures with FRP faces

Abstract
In this study, static compression of composite cylindrical shells have been investigated. The shell wall has the sandwich structure where the faces of glass woven roving. The experimental studiem have been associated with the detailed theoretical studies. The theoretical consideration is carried out with the use of 2D formulation and the higher order shell theory both in the local and the global structural approach. The analysis is conducted using the symbolic package Mathematica. The comparison of theoretical and numerical results demonstrates a very good agreement.
