Abstract
As a result of intense, rapid development of civilization that took place in the previous century, facades of the architectural objects has gone through huge evolution. In historical times, the outer walls of the buildings were designed in such way to ensure the safety of users in the first place. The aesthetic value was the result of the applied material. Nowadays, in most cases we are dealing with multi-layer exterior walls. The reason is the increasing number of functions, they have to perform. With the development of technology and awareness of architects, number of these functions is still growing. Properly designed facade not only can ensure the safety, comfort, but also reduce energy consumption to a minimum and can give the opportunity to gain it. This article attempts to examine whether the precast concrete facades are able to meet increasing demands of the functional posed against external partitions, and if so to what extent. Research was carried out on about sixty examples of completed buildings, located in different climatic zones and with various usable functions. A common feature of these objects were elevations, where aesthetic appeal is a result of applied prefabricated concrete elements. The analysed projects, which used the concrete façade solutions, show that these technologies are able to meet almost all of the functional requirements posed for the modern facades. This is due to the properties of the mere material and almost the complete freedom in shaping the form and aesthetics of the components.
